From humble beginnings in a small butcher shop in Somerset, Tasmania, Pandani Select Foods has grown over 50 years into a name synonymous with quality, tradition, and innovation in smallgoods and butchery. It all began in 1965, when Walter Ingles, a seasoned butcher with decades of experience (including service in WWII), fulfilled his dream of owning his own shop. With his son Ian by his side, Walter laid the foundation for a business that would span generations. His philosophy was simple: in hard times or good, people need quality food. And so, quality is what he delivered—from paddock to plate.
Walter sourced the finest local beef, lamb, and pork, and quickly became renowned for his fresh, tender cuts and house-cured specialties. From hand-salted hams to traditionally smoked bacon, the distinctive Pandani flavour was born—crafted with care, authenticity, and an eye for excellence.
After Walter’s passing in 1978, Ian took the reins, bringing a new wave of innovation. As demand grew, so did the business.
In 2010, Pandani launched a purpose-built smallgoods factory, designed with sustainability at its core. Utilising local resources, energy-efficient systems, and responsible waste management, Pandani remains committed to both quality and environmental sustainability.
Now in its third generation, the Ingles family continues to lead the business with the same integrity and passion. With qualified meat tradespeople and specialists in smallgoods manufacturing and quality assurance, Pandani is proud to serve loyal customers across Tasmania and beyond.
